I recently flew a Dublin trip and was told that the airport authority is building a 380 gate, hence the construction work at the end of the new terminal.

Does anyone have any info?

Rumour says September for the arvo flights.

The current work on the ramp is just normal scheduled rehabilitation work. The whole ramp will be done in phases. It's not for the 380.

From the Dublin Airport Authority report at aviationreg.ie..

"15.6.002 Apron Rehabilitation (€ 21m) A significant portion of the airfield apron at Dublin Airport is over 40-years old. Recent structural surveys, as part of the ongoing Pavement Management System, have identified critical parts of the apron that require rehabilitation over the next 5 years. These areas are reaching the end of their useful economic life and need to be replaced to prevent increased opex costs, closure of stands, curtailment of movements and risk of Foreign Object Damage (FOD)."

It also mentions that any A380 stands will be on the old pier at the 300 stands.

No 380 service planned before summer 2017 at the earliest.

A380 to DUB starts in March 2016 probably planned for the first flight on 17th. It'll be the morning flight.

I wonder if they'll start serving "super" pints down in Temple Bar.

Don't know about 'Super' size beers in Temple Bar MM but the prices in there have been super-inflated for years anyway!!!

I suspect March is a one off PR flight for St. Patrick's day (March 17) and regular service would start at some point in the future.

It's not a one off. Service starts in March.

Thanks for the info vf......
Do you know if it will be the morning or the afternoon departure from Dxb ?

(I presume they will not drop the second flight)

You seem very certain Habibi!! Where is the announcement?

I have been told it will be the afternoon flight, at sometime in the future, due to the occasional morning fog, and the 380 would encroach into the ILS protected area for >Cat1. When using the end of pier stand.

Anyhow, you 380 peeps better sharpen up your x wind landing skills, fun, fun.

The Dublin service is still 77W for the foreseeable future.

The AFTERNOON service is being looked at as a possible A380 flight. If it does occur it will only be the afternoon service because the Airport cannot handle the 380 for a lunchtime arrival. It will be parked at the stands on the eastern side of Terminal 2 (i.e. by the threshold of 28,) as this causes the least disruption, and at a quiet time.

How do I know? 2 reasons. 1. I have spoken directly to those who plan this. 2. Chatting to a friend who owns a large travel agency. Nothing is loaded for the 380 to Dublin. 77W is still there. If it was 380 on the 17th of March like vfenext claims, it would have already been loaded into the system.

Initially it's the afternoon flight but hopefully before the end of the year it will be 2 X daily 380. The flight is always rammed so good news for the hundreds of Irish staff:ok:

DUB will probably have a one off flight like GLA and BHX did. EK39/40 to BHX will be a 380 from 27th March 2016.

For 380 crews Grand Central is a brilliant new shopping centre with a John Lewis store.

And pay 10% more than UK JL stores, including the Euro STG crossover, my advice order online from the uk then collect in store, way cheaper than buying anything in DUB.
I wonder if the new DFO is pushing hard for the 380 to make sure he looks after the murphfia.

Confirmation from reliable sources at EIDW that the A380 is planned to do a once off flight on March 17, to be landing on RWY10 regardless of winds as taxiway at end of 10 (intersects with RWY34) is only one wide enough at the moment for the 380.

And it's painted green!
BTW it only needs 23 m taxiway
