Saw this on another site and thought it might bring memories back to a couple of the readers.

I don't know why, and I'm no pilot, but doesn't the replacement twin engine aircraft cockpit look a lot more complex than its predecessor?

Biggest memory that came back from the Radar picture are the words written on the back of every scratchpad - Sorry Spike :)

The new cockpit? I thought a glass cockpit was complicated at first, but it didn't take long to catch on.

And the 2 most complex looking keypads, inboard of the knees, replace the Route Nav so that must be good ;)

That lot also replaces the Flight Engineer and his panel !

Who is going to operate this if the Nav and Eng have gone.http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/keithnewsome/Dec%202015/DSC_0038.jpg

Without the nav and the eng the need will have halved.

However on the E3 the SLF after their time on the Shack and a lead from the cousins they declared the aircraft as self-catering. I don't know what happened at the sharp end.

I see the Radar's VCR control panel is blanked off.

Have they put Teac's finest Black and White Low Def 1980 piece of junk back into storage, ready to be put into the P8?

From the people who brought you, a smaller toaster by blanking over half the slots, recording a colour TV picture on a B&W VCR:ugh:

I love the N and C buttons on the yoke. Left pilot right N and right pilot left N, no chance of confusion.

Those are the coffee, no sugar order buttons for the galley ;)

Ah, I forgot, ty, I remember now the sugar with option for the navs.

The cockpit and galley look familiar, the radar and nav panels are long after my time.
As regards the buttons, got detailed off to show the members of Campbeltown
council round a Shack during a detachment from Kinloss. We were told to explain that they were intercom call buttons, one or the Nav, one for the whole crew. Never did find out what they were really for.

The flight deck one is missing the autopilot from the top of the combing :)

" missing the autopilot "

How appropriate.
When we first got them the auto-pilot was not cleared for use.
Those 9 hour outings without were such fun.

Then what is that panel on the centre console between the throttles and the Flight Director panel?

.....is the "combing" what the more follically challenged members of the flight did to preserve their youthful appearance (a la TD?) or are we talking about the coaming?
It was unkindly suggested by the sigglywigs that for coffee delivery during the night that TD and Andy?? had their drinks requirements tattooed on their bald patches in Braille. Neither was amused!

Ah, but do you remember the Astro trap? Hang a bag over the sextant to warn you to duck your head and as a consequence the trip hazard on the step.

can't you just smell it

Do you mean the galley or elsan?

Pontius Navigator
20th Dec 2015, 17:08
I think the latter was the more odorous.

Malodorous?

oxenos
20th Dec 2015, 18:58
It would depend on
(a) who was on the galley,
(b) who was on the elsan.

Oceania, quite, like peanut butter, marmalade and pilchards on burnt toast.
