I'd rather be in Akrotiri than Brize. What am I missing here?
Apart from the weather wouldn't it have a more favourable tax regime too?

High five, I think you may be confusing Airtanker with the RAF.

If you have perfect credentials, you MAY have a 1:1000 chance. Very small company with RAF-like standards that few can meet. I've heard that once in the door, pay and benefits are excellent, but again... very few will qualify. See what they say and if you are close, give it a shot, but do not hold your breathe. I've also heard that >90 are recent, former RAF. Best wishes.:D:D

Doesn't Air Tanker carry fuel for the boys defending our nation? Therefore its unlikely you will be doing a 9-5 from Brize ?
But yes i dont know much about it so i stand corrected!

If by "perfect credentials ", no fly, you meant an A330 rating, I'd agree. That is very high on their list of requirements, well above any ex-RAF old boys preference. That said, there aren't too many rated 330 pilots on the beach. As for "excellent" terms, perhaps you'd define that; several of my (current UK charter airline) 330 colleagues have interviewed but lost interest on learning extent of pay cut involved. As for bases, only Brize mentioned, regular stopovers in Stanley. Certainly no word of any Cyprus basing.

I know of a Monarch 320 rated guy who went there end of last year.

There are two sides to Air Tanker. Military element does the refuelling. Civilian wet lease to the likes of Thomas Cook.
