I have another project that I'd like to beg your help with...

I've got some panels from a Lockheed L-1011 with some dead bulbs. Their are two types, both 5 Volt.

The first is known as a 'short T1' wire filament. I bought some standard T1s, in the hope that I could enlarge the holes that they fit into, but they're just too long. Mine are more or less spherical, and I found some with a US supplier who'd like to relieve me of $10 a piece, which is a bit steep for a desk display! This is the 'long' T1 that doesn't fit.

The second type are as pictured below. Probably sold as one piece, but it looks like another short T1 fitted into the ring that you see.

Any ideas for a non-certified supplier?

MPPW01 50pcs 2mm 1.5V Miniature Pre-Wired Grain of Wheat Bulbs
or
MP1MMW 50 pcs 1mm Ultra Miniature 1.5V Grain of Wheat Bulbs

On ebay. Used for model railways. May do the job. You would have to wire them in series/parellel for a 5v supply.

NutLoose, thanks, but I'm trying to avoid leds because the bulbs that are still working give a definite yellow glow. That's not to say never, but even the 'warm white' leds I have around the house are too white for authenticity.

Dixi, again thanks. The 1mm (very nominal!) looks like it might just fit (pic below shows one in situ, dia 3mm ht 3.8mm) - but I'd like to avoid rewiring if possible because it's not completely straightforward! You have given me hope though, I'll keep searching.

Just had a thought. I could use 12V if that rings any different bells?

Can you find any other panels from scrap aircraft that you can rob. They look like ones I've changed on other types in the past.
I've seen lots go in skips when aircraft are broken up.

Dixi, yes, it may come to that. Deepest Surrey doesn't do aircraft dismantlers, but a few hours driving is beginning to look a lot more attractive than futile Googling!

Do you know the exact bulb designation? The range has a bunch of different current draws and brightness. These are Oshino, right??

I'm afraid I don't. The wire-tailed bulbs are 0.75W 6.5 Ohm ( at 5V) and 3mm wide by 3.8mm high.

The ones in the fitting (and closer inspection shows that the one tail is welded to the bright metal ring surrounding the bulb) are 5 Ohm (1W at 5V) and the cap dia is 5/32" (thread major 9/64").

The reason I ask, is the form factor includes bulbs with a range of brightnesses, and corresponding MTBF. If they're Oshino, the head office is down the street from me at the moment.

Two lucky breaks at once. I've just been told that the bare bulb is either MS90451-7132 or 7132AS15 or WL-7132AS15, and following Bushfiva's lead and plugging those into a search of Oshino's website takes me to this bulb T-1*Short Wire Terminal 7132AS15 | Oshino Lamps America (http://oshinolamps.com/t-1-short-wire-terminal-7132as15.html).

I'll write and ask them for a price!

No promises but if you contact Adams Aviation in Croydon and explain that the bulbs are not for commercial or aviation use and that a C of C is not required they may be able to do a deal...

Hey! no problem and gotta be worth a try. We go back aways with me or my employers as the customer and I always found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable.
Good Luck with the project.

Given your location, if you do contact Oshino, you may want to try the UK office: About Us | Oshino Lamps UK Ltd (http://www.oshino-lamps.co.uk/about-oshino-lamps).
