Kaspersky. Free from Barclays, it might be, but worth the hassle?

The question is, has anyone else had the hassle with Kaspersky that I have? Pre and Post W10 compatible.


Firstly, prior to loading W10 and the new version of Kaskpersky.

Many times had to disable Kasper to allow a transfer to be made. It would say, 'Open in new browser?' but it didn't matter if I did or didn't, I still couldn't go one single step further. Solid green screen locked solid.

Get the darn program out of the way for a moment, but one has to sign in just to pause it. :*

Then, after one new iteration, 'My Barclays' would suddenly appear on full screen in a Kasper window. FFS! I'd made a totally unrelated call on FireFox but now I'm half way into my bank account.


Post W10 Kaspersky being installed The OS install had killed Kasper but left it in Programs and Features. Best leave it there to facilitate the upgrade as getting the pass-codes from the bank is tedious. It works. The new AV will sort everything, right?

New set of problems. "Money to a family member today. Barclay's message in red. "Something's gone wrong. Try in four hours." Yeah, a vendor is going to like that. Glad it was only family. Now I find the new Kasper is harder to pause. I do, but turning one's AV off to make transactions seems a tad counter-productive to me.

Turning it off allowed the transaction to take place. What a total crock of Sierra Hotel 1 Tango.

Then there's the fact this it's a load of Ruskies operating it. Suppose there was a conflict, millions of people worldwide might find all their money has been sucked into Ruskieland. Paranoid, moi?

My only experience of Krapinki was with my mobile. After downloading it I could see the battery indicator going down, 4 days of battery power gone in 7 minutes.

I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security on a couple of PCs and several laptops for about 5 years now, with no problems (WinVista, Win7, Win8, Win8.1). Have been very happy with it after dumping Norton which kept crashing and seeming to use quite a bit of resource.

On certain HP laptops, once loaded with Windows 10, Kaspersky will prevent the wireless card from working. It didn't happen on initial Window 10 upgrade but in September 2015 when some sort of update occurred. Apparently uninstalling Kaspersky cures it, but just switching it off does not. Guess how I know? :ugh:

It must be okay most of the time or it wouldn't have got the ratings it achieved. Top, once, was it not?

Blues, do you religiously set each recipient of transfers in Kasper's list before sending to them?

But even if one has failed to enter the recipient, to do nothing but leave one with locked green screen is plain naff. Closing all browsers is often the only answer.

My daughter was one that was pre-used and listed with the bank. Should have been 30 secs to do the job. Just a few quid for the nipper's Christmas. But I can see this really harming one's credibility with a vendor or bank.

Further to all this of course is Barclays "annoying code" one has to put in at the end of some - if not most - Visa payments.

Hi Loose, hopefully I've understood what you are trying to do - I haven't had to do anything to Kaspersky over the years to allow me to transfer money to various recipients from my bank account via the bank's online banking website.
The Visa code thing I get with my bank too (not Barclays).
While we're on the subject, I didn't have problems with Rapport, but when I last changed PC/OS I didn't install it because of all the poor reports I'd heard.

Agree with the Visa comment. I'm with RBS and regularly get this check (though not so much recently oddly). Still have Rapport and so far no probs.

Kasper has a list that one can tailor and it seems it relaxes a bit when this is prepared for that and future transactions. But it all seems so way over the top just to make a payment.

It's odd, because the Rivetess has mastered Kasper in no time, yet I'm left floundering with ALL my computers in the same way. Well, the 3 seats they allow me. Just a soddin' green screen with Would you like to have a secure browser kind of message. Nothing, nada, zip will let me proceed beyond that point and I refuse to pay Kasper to talk support. Barclays will support me, and sound very concerned when I fuss, but more and more I'm being put over to some cute kid in New Deli. I get support when I'm lonely.

Mind you, I called a T-Mob store just down the road from where the Rivetess is in Texas and not only didn't he know about the phone upgrade promotion, when I asked if they were not a main store but a franchise, he had not the vaguest idea of what a franchise was. He had several goes at saying the word before slamming the phone down. Not usual for an American store. Didn't matter. Wife told me she didn't want the dumb phone, even if it was intelligent. Samsung Core prime for $50. No binding contract. Not at all bad. I was wondering if I could unlock it when it came east. They unlocked my last one cos we'd been good customers for years.

Fed up with phones and Kasper now. Going over to my thread about BMWs and railway lines.

B:mad:d thing now just opens a protected page with bank details - right in the middle of doing something else.


I see I've mentioned that above, but yesterday it was ridiculous. Nothing whatsoever to do with the bank, suddenly, there it is and what's more I have to close the browser I'm on as the only way of killing it. Whatever I'm doing is lost.

Run Malwarebytes and the MS kit to no avail.

I'm sure my brain is slow these days, but even as an old retired guy, I just don't have the time to invest in so much learning. I think Kasper will have to go unless Barclays come up trumps (that's not a good word these days!!).

It used to be fun and when it's fun one doesn't mind the detective work, but now it's just a pain in the brain.

It doesn't sound as though you and technology are good bedfellows if this thread and the one you were writing yesterday are anything to go by! Maybe a good idea for you to get someone to hold your hand.

The benefit of doing this is that you will get more time to frequent the forums you like and, who knows, you may find someone who appreciates your brand of humour!

Maybe I'm dumb but I thought Kaspersky was an Antivirus app. Why does it interfere with online bank transactions? Serious question - I don't know anything about Kaspersky (obviously).

I`ve heard of banks giving away anti virus disks before, I`m not paranoid but I really wonder why. If I were you I would uninstall it and then run Combofix

I have used it for years on many pc's. The safe browser doesn't work with all web sites and seems happiest with ie as a browser. The safe browser thing can be switched off in settings I recall. It also has a habit of scanning for rootkits which can be managed.

And yes, some installs were from Barclay's.

The thing is, with an old brain, reading in and mastering all this inflow is too time absorbing. Multiply this problem with say, ten other issues - mostly W10 and phones with their associated bank links, in two countries, and one either needs to give up on life outside one's PC, or hire a secretary.

Dulled brain? I suppose one could give up the Chablis that goes so nicely with the smoked salmon, and not spend time tilting and breathing the red for the steak course . . . steak? Buggah. Kaspersky has not protected me from billowing smoke from the kitchen. In haste . . .
