Good evening. Scopesie junior has managed to secure a place on a Future Pilot Programme with a well known British airline. To get him started I think a good Christmas present would be a nice leather bound logbook, but a quick Google search has presented me with lots of options - anyone out there happy to recommend a format? Do I go Jeppesen EASA Professional, AFE EASA Professional, Pooleys EASA Part-FCL Professional.... or any of the other options out there?!?
Honestly I told him to go military, all I have ever had to do is go to the registry and ask for a new log book...!
Any pointers gladly received - and if by chance I am in the wrong forum please be nice and let me know. Cheers - Scopesie.

On the program they might give him a logbook that they prefer students to use. I don't know if they do or not but I know that some training organisations do this.

If not or otherwise I personally would recommend the Jeppesen EASA one as it is what I use.

Whilst it doesn't have the same sentimental value, you will make his future life a lot easier buy advising him to get or buying him/subscribing him to an electronic logbook. There are many variations out there, the two most popular probably being Logtenpro and mccPILOTLOG. Choice between them is personal preference again, it is generally believed that Logtenpro is nicer looking, easier to use and perhaps better designed, however it is a yearly subscription whereas I believe mccPILOTLOG is a pay once thing.

For starting off I would advise running a paper logbook alongside an electronic one. Some training organisations and authorities like to see hard paper, but if he starts with an electronic as well then at least he won't have to spend his evenings copying hundreds or thousands of hours into a database when he decides to switch later on.

Great stuff - thanks for the comprehensive reply and the doubtless sound advice. That should make my Christmas shopping a bit easier...

Thanks again - Scopesie.
