Maneuver load alleviation

Hi,

Can someone explain the Maneuver load alleviation system on board the B787? What I understand is, when an aircraft rolls while pitching up to maintain lift, the wings are incurring alot of loading and wing flex, the Maneuver load alleviation system aims to activate the outboard ailerons to prevent too much of a wing flex?

Is that correct?

Boeing Maneuver Load Alleviation on 787 seeks to reduce the wing loads during maneuvers. It works via deployment of wing surfaces to shift the spanwise distribution of lift inboard during maneuvers so as to reduce the loads on the airplane structure. During normal cruise flight (i.e., 1 g flight) spanwise loading is managed to reduce drag. During maneuvers it is managed to reduce load.
