For many years it has been possible for anyone with a fast enough Internet connection to watch free live streams of sports from around the world. Most of these streams require the installation of Adobe Flash and will not work without it regardless of which operating system or browser is used.

The problem now is that in recent months Flash has been exposed as a serious security risk. It is so bad that in spite of numerous updates privacy and computer security advocates have recommended its removal from computers and other devices. Smart stream suppliers such as YouTube have responded by ensuring that their streams can be viewed without Flash. However the live sports stream providers are lagging behind as their streams still cannot be viewed without Flash.

Please provide names and links to live sports streams that may be viewed without Flash. Thanks.

Posters on another forum suggested using Kodi but it does not solve the problem.

Several online searches using different terminology have failed to confirm that Kodi is a direct replacement for Adobe Flash. Kodi seems to be a capable but complex media player that cannot be installed and then expected to operate without considerable further “tweaking” by a supernerd. That is not what I am seeking. Installing and using Adobe Flash is simple. I would like to have a replacement with the same simplicity and functionality.

Several times in the past I have downloaded and installed Flash. It installs automatically in the right place and with the correct settings to work. It then will play embedded videos without further action beyond clicking on the video. It also allows online live sports streams to play. I am seeking a direct replacement for Flash that performs with the same simplicity. ie install it and then do nothing more than click on the embedded video or live stream. Is there such an app?

The online searches indicated that VLC also should be able to play Flash video but it fails to do so on our iMac. We have had VLC for some time. Over the years we have accumulated DVDs from many countries. Apple has installed anti-competitive and anti-user/customer malware in its OSX system that locks up its own DVD player if DVDs from other countries are played. Using VLC avoids this Apple abuse. VLC works fine for playing DVDs. However VLC’s presence on our iMac is not recognised by websites such as the BBC, who advise us to upgrade our (non-existent) Flash player. The Beeb’s videos will not play and neither will the online live sports streams.

The makers of supposed substitutes such as Kodi and VLC need to make their apps as simple to install and use as Adobe has done with its Flash Player but without the security issues.

We were not in any way disappointed with the playing performance of Flash. We took it off because it has been proved to be such a security liability. We are looking for a simple, secure and direct replacement for the discredited Adobe Flash player. Is there one available? If not, we will just do without the videos from the retarded websites that still require it. Presumably gradually declining traffic will eventually motivate their owners to change their website videos and live streams to HTML5.
