Hi all!

May I know The difference between the above 2? Is the class one eye check more comprehensive than those offered by hospitals?

Thank you!

You will need the sign off from a DAME for your class one medical so you can fly. He/She may or may not deem a hospital check up sufficient.

By the way, eyes are checked by optometrists for visual acuity, and opthalmologists for eye health. Different experts; different checks.

Go to your DAME first and he/she may or may not send you off somewhere else for "eye checks".

It all depends on what eye check you have in mind. If it's an eye check mandated by passing one of the age milestones, it must be signed off by a DAOE I think they're called - a CASA approved eye quack. It's a smart idea to have it done and bring the certificate along to your DAME when you have your medical. This applies to mandated blood tests too, give the DAME all the stuff he needs at once and be done with the whole business.

Otherwise it really matters little whose wall holds up the chart you read out. It is just a quick and dirty.
