Fuel surcharge

Something that has been troubling me for some time now

How is Cathay still permitted to levy a fuel surcharge on passengers when the cost of oil has dropped by more than 50% from its recent highs. Surely the surcharge has to be approved by the government and I'm sure that the passengers are not remotely interested in the fuel hedging debacle
So why has this situation been permitted to continue ?

CAD are just finalizing a name change to "Fuel Hedging Surcharge"
In addition to "Crew Shortage Surcharge", "Rostering Fiasco Surcharge", "Crew Don't Give a **** Surcharge" and "Bent Aircraft Surcharge".

To save on pax confusion, there is some talk of rationalizing the charges into one. The "Incompetency Surcharge".

For the avoidance of doubt, the surcharge will be charged fully on all ID tickets.

Well, someone is going to have to pay for the hedging losses.

The profit share has now fallen to laughable level and cancelling it altogether, although likely, is hardly going to make a dent in the $4 Billions. Management bonuses can't be touched since it's obviously not their fault, so it's time to screw the customers.
