Did anyone hear about the recent alleged pushback incident of a 737 in Melbourne that did $13m damage to an aircraft system and then rather than repair it the aircraft was sold to an African nation?

Just wondering :-)

Is that like the 74 rescued from a golf course for more than it was worth? ;)

Claret,
Some of you will never accept that OJH was a commercial repair, will you, indeed a decision largely made by the insurance underwriters, never let the facts spoil a good story.

As a bonus, after the repair, it was the best preforming aeroplane in the fleet, with a delta fuel figure of just over 3% better than the lowest performer.

Tootle pip!!

This one wasn't repaired though.... It allegedly flew to Africa un-pressurized :-)

Wasn't Qantas self insured in those days?

Lead Sled, you've got the arse end. The wink was supposed to indicate sarcasm, as I don't believe that the ex golf course 74 was repaired for more than it was worth.

And in the absence of proof as opposed to rumour, I'm sceptical about an aeroplane with $13m damage being sold to an African "nation".

I fear the day all the rumours stop because then, all the aeroplanes will fall out of the sky.

This one did actually happen...

Just because it didn't make it to the news doesn't mean it didn't happen! Lots of things happen that don't make it to the news like for example when ground crew are alcohol and drug tested and are found positive. You know... The kind of stuff that an airline would not want anyone to know about. (not saying these events are related, just using it as an example)

In this case one could easily check the aircraft register and see what was exported. Just sayin' ;-)

What registration or what country of registration was this alleged aircraft on?

If it flew out damaged and unpressurised, was there a Permit to Fly (or whatever it may be called these days?)

And if it did occur and the flight was "legal", it seems a good way to get rid of an airline's problems. :E

And it left at FL400 so it can't have been leaking too bad :}

I think you will find VHVUN was a lease return flight and had been sitting in short term storage at MEL.

Squawkie,

Alleged incident, or actual incident?

Nothing reported to the ATSB!
