View Full Version : V-22 Osprey at Thorney Island

Whilst in Emsworth yesterday at about 6.30pm or shortly after, a V-22 flew over heading North West. A while later it reappeared over the harbour and flew into Thorney Island. Later still, it flew West along the South end of the harbour along the Hayling Island seafront in the Portsmouth direction.
Just out of interest, does anyone know if this one is based in Europe, off a visiting US ship, or here from the Summer airshow circuit?

One of the Mildenhall-based ones, perhaps?
Also seen in the skies over the Isle of Wight, participating in military exercises currently taking place on the Island. (Newtown ranges near Yarmouth).

Buzzing around till around 2300 hrs yesterday, strange noise wondered what the hell it was!

So that's why its around the Solent. The article doesn't confirm where is from although Mildenhall would seem likely.

Isle of Wight ........near Yarmouth !!!
It or maybe two?... out and about again today.
Seen whilst driving home this evening, not conducive to safe motoring!
Hi Towteambase...yup that's Yarmouth IOW rather than Great Yarmouth!
I think the exercise is just a distraction for the IOW to invade mainland UK, do away with the place in Norfolk.

i live in emsworth,its 23:22 16:5:18 we have just had four very low flyby’s by an Osprey... green side by side rotor tips kinda gave it away ... very low and fast - never seen one before or heard one .. Very low ! no rotor sound just the jet turbines...(slight rotor sound the fourth pass ) looks like they are testing “ maybe from Thorney.... god knows Very cool sound — siting waiting for it to come back
