350's are not being deferred; extra ones airbus wanted to send us next year can't be accommodated.

Hmm. No mention of this in the weekly rap-up. You guys must be mistaken.

The CMC cards seem to be the big issue

Unfortunately for Thailand tourist numbers from Hong Kong has dropped since the bomb. CX cutting flights to Bangkok, freeing up some crew... They always get helped by someone else's tragedy and calamity.

Just heard from the cabin crews the company emailed them telling them Hyderabad and Riyadh is up for trump card request with 5 and 7 days pattern. To me that means they are cancelling flights already for October, how else will there be such long patterns if the flights are daily or whatever schedule they originally are... Anyway who wants to be in RUH or HYD for a week now??

Frogman1484

HYD is 3 x a week, so they will cancel two flights.
RUH...omg 7 days...that would rate as the worst 7 days of your life!:O I would have to fly to Dubai and kill the time over there!

By the end of Dec we will have 4 crews trained on the a350....this will be interesting on how they are going to manage that!

I think there will be a lot more cancelations on the Airbus fleet starting in jan.

Frogman, you can't fly to Dubai if you're stuck in Riyadh for a week as you have to surrender your passport on arrival. I've tried it believe me!

Can you imagine the outcry from the Arab nations if an Arab arriving in UK was ordered to surrender his passport until such time as he leaves .
Mind you maybe that's not such a bad thing after all

I believe the whole reason why we have to surrender our passports is because CX is to cheap to pay for crew visas, so I've been told. Interestingly enough it's forbidden for a kiwi passport holder to surrender his/her passport. Hence why I've never flown with a kiwi to RUH.

We can't be as desperate as Emirates. How much have they paid PPrune to advertise their need for pilots? I have the advert popping up everywhere.

I know of Kiwi passport holders who have operated to Riyad.

Everybody who goes to Saudi surrenders their passports and I've know many Kiwi's who have and continue to work in Saudi and have always surrendered their passports like everyone else.

I heard that EK has just dropped their overtime limit from 92 hours back to 85or 87. Not sure if it is true. If it is they are trying to fix thing to retain their crews.

They did that ages ago and it's 88 hours.

This shows that the oft reported pilot shortage is in fact starting to have teeth. the fact that the back of Flight magazine had full page adverts for pilot jobs from easyJet and Ryanair, and three whole pages from Qatar shows that there is a lot of competition for the same resource.

Cx still think they can go in the other direction by cutting more meat from the bone!

I also heard that EK soon will have to offer direct entry Captain positions on the A380.

Emirates realised that lowering the O/T threshold to 88 hours was cheaper than giving the guys a pay rise, as O/T is paid at a lower rate.

Airline flying sounds like so much fun "these days" - where do I sign up?

Here's a better idea:
