I have operated a Hawker out of Leeds East at least half a dozen times over the last couple of times and it's not without its challenges.

The airport itself and all the staff are very friendly however there is a a distinct lack of procedure getting in and out. Every time I have been in the procedure of entering or leaving controlled airspace has been different. It is also very close to Sherburn in Elmet which presents the added challenge of lots of VFR traffic.

We are considering not operating in and out of there at the moment until a proper procedure is in place. We have made a comprehensive assessment and brief for Leeds East as a company, happy to share any info with others.

Lest not forget it is still an unlicensed private airfield.
Cracking location and cheap fuel and some positive plans for the not too distant future.
Procedures are in place - akin to Gamston - but we're not executed by Doncaster as not all staff awake to the fact that jets are prone to using the place vfr -
I hear GNSS due next year and some airspace protection.

If as EESDL says it's unlicensed what safety procedures are in place for "Hawker" presumably jets. Is there any form of ATC, does it have an ATZ, is the airspace Class G etc.
Not sure but is it "legal" to operate into unlicensed airfields with jets. Maybe depends on type of flight. Don't know all the details of Leeds East but sounds a bit risky if there's a lack of procedures with Sherburn nearby.
If in doubt may be be best to use somewhere nearby where more established published procedures exist.

You are either being mischievous or insinuating Hawker of lacking airmanship - which is it?
Just for you then:
Jets are often operated in the private category and take the owner where they want to go, be it to an IFR commercial airfield or a private VFR 'airfield' COCAS.
Be careful not to lose the flexibility of GA or the spirit of aviation.
Sherburn is well marked on the map and a quick call can clarify traffic.
No doubt once an ATZ is mandated further procedures will no doubt follow.
I have witnessed the airfield getting its shinyJavelin fire truck out for Hawker's arrivals - although that doesn't stop some ab-initio from Sherburn getting lost and flying overhead - but that could also happen at 'somewhere nearby'.....
Joining procedures are clearly defined on the website - and these are also known by Sherburn traffic.
The future for LEA looks positive - have seen the plans for the new terminal and very impressed. Local GA and business aviation deserve such a convenient alternative.
