Would any kind soul be able to recommend hotels for a stay during an initial course at FS Teterboro, is staying in Manhattan viable at all?.
Not really too bothered about the cost at this point.

Considering it is for quite a stretch I want to stay somewhere were I would be least likely to start looking for sharp objects after a couple of weeks.

Thanks to all!

The lincoln tunnel can be a pain in the arse - although you could in theory take the ferry across the hudson and then get a cab from there.

I would be inclined to stay in Lincoln Harbour / Weehawken (the Sheraton is good with lots of bars etc plus you are already in NJ but NYC is just across the water).

We also stay in secaucus quite regularly and the hotels are likely to be able to shuttle you too / from KTEB

This --- In secaucus quite regularly and the hotels are likely to be able to shuttle you too / from KTEB

Also you can ask your FSI associate for special rates, they always can provide them in hotels around the training center.

I wouldn't recommend Manhattan also, but a bus ride will get you there in 20-30 mins, cabs are more expensive but flexible.

Tip: set a rewards account with whatever hotel chain you end up using, 25-30 days might get you a few perks in the future.

For years i stayed at the Embassy Suites,in Secaucus; large rooms, choice of restaurants around, direct bus at door steps to big Apple. Trip to FSI is OK, depending on Rush hors, just find your way around ( many short-cuts available).

Downside, it became ( may it is still) home of Netjets. A part from that all good.

Secaucus is certainly you best option in the vicinity. Manhattan will be a nightmare traveling back and forth.

Embassy Suites gets my vote after 12 years of going there. Excellent quiet and spacious rooms and V few NetJets Guys nowadays. I have nothing at all against NJ, the only prob with NJ is that they used to dominate the free shuttle to FSI/Teterboro and sometimes one had to wait for it to return again.
If your company can run to a Rental Car, you are quids in.
If Manhattan is your bag, hop on the (every 20mins) buses that stop right outside the hotel and go in (25 mins drive) will cost about $6. Throws you out slap bang in the middle.
As previously posted, Secaucus has every restaurant you could desire (Outback steaks, and Hoolahan's buffalo wings mmmm!), and if you fancy a night in, walk to Wallmart and buy some excellent grub to cook and eat in your room.
The free beer (if you can call it that!!) from 6pm to 8pm helps also!
Enjoy, you're going to have a great time (and some excellent training).

FSI - TEB, great Falcon training, for hotels after 20 plus years going there Secaucus hotels (Embassey Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn) have become quite run down but there are a bunch of restaurant options. Marriott Renaissance on Route 17 is a good hotel with quiet comfortable rooms only drawback is unless you eat at the hotel you must drive, Hilton Hackensack same thing except for the Fish house which is not what it used to be. Teaneck Marriott Glenpointe is also good with some local neighborhood. restaurants nearby. PM if you have any further questions.

Cheers

Heads up as for reasons already posted here by others for Secaucus and the spacious rooms at Embassy Suites - the only thing I found really bad at the latter is the breakfast... but for that you could put some stuff from Walmart in the fridge.

Yeah, Secaucus gets my vote as well. There is the 320 bus line (use this LINK (https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0320.pdf) to check out the fares and schedule) that stops near almost all of the hotels in Secaucus and will take you to Manhatten within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. You don't want to go to NYC with a car, except on Sundays.

As CL300 mentioned we used to stay at the Embassy Suites. The rooms are really big, the staff is friendly and the bus mentioned above stops directly in front of it. The only downside for me is the breakfast, which is not really up to my standards, but in the US it is hard to find a good breakfast selection anyways. Note: I am German :ouch:

Btw., CL300, we have moved out of the ES, now staying across the street in another hotel. I have stayed there last year on tour.

There is a also a large WalMart in walking distance, so you will be set for your shopping to get some snacks/drinks/fruit etc..

You may want to check Trip Advisor and have a look at or all hotels in Secaucus/Meadowlands. The 10 Best The Meadowlands Hotels on TripAdvisor - Prices & Reviews for the Top Rated Accommodation in The Meadowlands, NJ (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g4046164-The_Meadowlands_New_Jersey-Hotels.html)

And as mentioned by leondelfierro, it may be worth asking FSI for hotel contacts and special rates.

If you decide to stay outside Meadowlands, you can still use the bus: just drive to Meadowlands with your car, park it for free in the large garage next to the Embassy Suites and Courtyard Hotel and then take the 320 bus to NYC.

Cheers all for the replies, appreciate it.

I guess it is going to be between the Sheraton at Lincoln harbour or the new Residence Inn at Meadowlands.

Well, if I had the choice, I would opt for the Sheraton. Ask for a room with river view and you will get the most spectacular view of the NY skyline. Hoboken with thousands of nice places for food and drinks is just next door.
BUT: getting to FSI Teterboro in the morning for Ground School and back during rush hour on I-495 can get time consuming. Therefore you are clearly better off in the Meadowlands Area.
Just a matter of personal priority.
Enjoy the stay.

Hotels in the Meadowlands operate shuttle busses that will take you to Hoboken and pick you up again, by the way. At the Embassy Suites they surely do it. Don't forget to tip! :p

Biggest problem with staying in Manhattan is that the bus that goes from Manhattan to Teterboro runs along the north side of the airport (Rt. 46), whereas FSI is on the south side, with a good 2 miles separating the two. The train station is probably a 15 minute walk from FSI, but the train doesn't go directly to Manhattan.
