Do any EK brethren have experience of booking standby tickets with American Carriers? I have won the ninth floor lottery and have my 'once per decade' leave 'with your family' later this year and I would like to do some traveling in the US? The ID 90 website accessible via trips continually brings up no flights available. Do we actually not have any partnerships with the American airlines or am I doing something wrong?

I have used Jetblue and Delta, both through the IDtravel website several times and never had any problems. You have to log into this through TRIPS though. As far as I am aware, the only airline we don't have an agreement with is American. Good luck.....

If I'm correct, with ID90 tickets you and you family will be at the bottom of any and all priority lists if flights get overbooked, delayed, cancelled etc etc.... With that in mind, if I had a "once in a decade" holiday with my family I'd be buying full price tickets all day long. Just sayin'....

If you are flying around the States or Europe ID travel is a waste of time and money. My kid just went from the UK to Vienna on a firm ticket for 79 Euros. You want to hang around the boarding gate to save money on that?

You should also know that if you are travelling space available in the States and you don't get on the flight your bags go ahead without you. An excellent start to your once-in-a-decade experience.

EauDB thanks for the info, the not logging in through TRIPS was the error.

Prop and Drop, I agree but on previous vacations we have enjoyed the whole unexpected element of seeing what seats are available and to which destinations and then going with the flow. The lack of pre planning is kind of the point! Perhaps we have Gypsy blood in us somewhere (definitely on the wife's side)

Thanks for the help though.. perhaps the camper van idea will win the day instead.

If you are referring to myidtravel then you need to select the airline that you want to fly on along with the airport pairing and date and voila - you should see some results.

I have used Jet Blue which worked really well and also United and I got bumped off both sectors but the airport staff were great at allowing me too buy a ticket at the last minute to make both flights.

Agreed. This happens more than people think. Good luck having staff give your misplaced luggage any importance as a non-revver over a full fare-paying passenger.

As other have said, log into myidtravel and you should be able to purchase tickets from JetBlue, Delta, and Southwest. You'll also be able to view available flights for American and United but these are NOT available for purchase as these flights are not line selectable at all. DL, WN, and B8 tickets are line selectable and will display fare. If I am wrong, somebody please correct me or if anybody knows otherwise, please let the rest of us know.

You can always join iddeals.com to see the seat numbers available for particular flights. This website has saved me a few times and it is worth the $15.00US/year fee.
