Hello Gent's, Ladies,

Currently am driving a LJ35, previous gig a CL60, heavy airline Irons before that. I have been given a mandate to procure a DA-50 or similar, i.e. CL601, my budget being on the low side of things. Am looking for some good intel on DA-50 ops, likes and dislikes, real world performance data.

Thank's all

fly like the book, cost as much as a 900 to operate, if the budget is right get an EX, the -40 engines are a bit better ( not counting the avionics package).
Now it is a Dassault, enough said, you like it , or you hate it...

In my humble opinion, the CL601 and DA50 are not really comparable.

The CL601 is a big airplane with a wide but short cabin. The baggage compartment could be larger, too. It has some performance shortcomings but everyone I know like it for its reliability.

The DA50 outperforms the CL601 easily, but the cabin is much narrower. You can do amazing things with this bird but: make sure which engines it got and what sort of avionics. In terms of versatility, it's hard to beat. But it's an old airplane.

Both of them are.

How about a used DA2000? Even better: a DA2000EX (classic). Good compromise: reasonably priced, big cabin, large baggage compartment and excellent performance.

A purchase budget would be helpful and will the aircraft be operated out of 'high and hot' airports.

As for the Falcon 50EX, they are selling in the ten million US dollar range with relative low total

You cannot beat the 'high and hot' performance of a Falcon 50EX with any other aircraft in that price range. Also the Falcon 50 is the only corporate jet that you can put an adult passenger in every seat, fill the fuel tanks and still have enough weight to carry a load of baggage.

"Unfortunately", the 50s have depreciated in value recently. The 50EX that I flew a couple of years ago (manufactured in 2000, 6,000 hours total) is currently being advertised at slightly above 5 million USD, with the owners probably willing to sell in the 4 to 5 million USD range.

For that low, guess I'm not as current on the market as I thought I was. I know straight 50 are going for about 1.5 million USD or less.

That's a hell of a lot of aircraft performance wise for that much money. I used to go from the Los Angeles area to London with just one fuel stop in Bangor, Maine in a straight 50.

Appreciate all your comments as they have given me cause to reconsider ditching the DA-50 in favor of the CL601. To answer the question of 'hot and/or high' ops, this scenario would not be applicable as things stand.

It will most likely take another couple of weeks before a decision will be forth coming and I will post the outcome. One issue I have found looming large, that of FJC Teterboro being not much help, a language barrier seemingly at the root of it. Will be in touch with the Little Rock facility as has been pointed out to me it being the better 'go to' facility.

Meanwhile, any and all comments, additional potential pitfalls, joys of 'living' with a DA-50, all good and appreciated. Thank you.

DA50 and 601 are just not comparable. The DA50 is a far better aircraft all round and a pleasure to fly. The wing is a work of art, the same can't be said for the 601, but it is a cheaper option.

601's Cabin is tiny compared to the Falcon's. I don't ever recall seeing a Falcon 50 with a cabin door either.

No real world experience with the '50 but if dealing with Dassault is anything to go by i'd be looking for a good 601 - emphasis on "good" as there's a few nails out there.

I guess thats the other way round, innit ?

but if dealing with Dassault is anything to go by i'd be looking for a good 601

Are they that horrible ?

Dassault ? Horrible ? Well it is an understatement while being under warranty, or on one of these all included deals ( but the exceptions on annex 25, small prints).

If you buy a Dassault plane, you do not really own the plane, barely Dassault let you fly it with their rules, going all the way down to the call-outs and task allocation in the cockpit ( nowadays).

It got better along the years, and thanks to the commonality in the parts, you can still have new parts for a Falcon 20 in stock.

Falcon 50 is a very nice machine, truth being told ( besides the third engine) a CL30 will beat the **** out of it, hands down, while in private ops; phase in EASA and AOC, you will smile everyday with a Falcon 50. Especially at today's prices, even if upgrading the avionics to let say Proline 21 will dry a bit your pockets, it is an airframe with no life limit, with unprecedented aerodynamic, and a roll rate that only a Lear 24 would beat.

Dassault is bad, but the good thing is , that falcon 50 are not under warranty anymore, therefore your choice of maintenance facility, even a bigger smile..

But caution, there is not a lot of very good 50EX on the market at press time, the good ones do not stay too long.
