I came across this article and thought the authors' comment about carefully engineered conflict between the workers was interesting and highly applicable to our industry in this day and age of outsourcing and subcontractors.

And that's exactly what the bosses want! They want us fighting over who has the bigger pile of crumbs so we don't realize they made off with almost the whole damn cake. Why are you angry about fast food workers making two bucks more an hour when your CEO makes four hundred TIMES what you do? It's in the bosses' interests to keep your anger directed downward, at the poor people who are just trying to get by, like you, rather than at the rich assholes who consume almost everything we produce and give next to nothing for it.

Proof enough to me that the pilot group in the same boat as the fast food worker, our "crumbs" may be larger but they still are crumbs compared to the CEO's.

Didn't the high priests of the Oz climate change religion push to close what would've been a very lucrative (for Australia) coal mining operation? I think it was an overseas investment and meant the coal would've been used offshore and not in Australia. I can't recall the exact details - only glossed over the article and had a laugh. Maybe that's what Sunfish is on about.

For those who dismiss anything from the Independent, I actually read it in the Sunday Times but couldn't find a link for that one.
