On the RyanAir pilot recruitment website you can read the following:

we are seeking Captains and First Officers for direct employment with Ryanair

Job security – permanent and contract positions available in one of the most successful airlines in the world.

Are they actually offering employment directly with RyanAir?

Yes. And they have been for about a year now

New to me.. everyone I have been talking to from FR are just mentioning the contract.

Is this employment Norwegian style of employment, (Employed through an agency), or actually directly by RyanAir?

Directly employed by Ryanair (not everyone not sure about the cadets) but it seems like every new joiner that wants a Ryanair contract is getting one. That's both FO and Captain. Don't get me wrong they're not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. They're doing it because they need pilots and that's one of the only ways to attract them from the likes of Norwegian and Jet2 etc.

For none Type rated , Ryanair are offering the opportunity to fly for Sunexpress Airlines for a year, get your 500 hours , and then be eligible to apply for Ryanair.
The carrot is that sunexpress will actually pay for your type rating. Whooo hooo ....

but it seems like every new joiner that wants a Ryanair contract is getting one

Just out of interest - does that mean that pilots with existing contracts will be offered permanent employment as well?

Kirks Gusset-suggest you check your facts as I have that offer in writing as a NTR DEC. Maybe you should pull your head in a rather long way. FWIW the Sun Express salary falls into the YGBSM category (<7k Euro per month)-as I mentioned when I replied!

Quote from recent email:

For many of you, the only requirements you did not have for Ryanair were the B737 rating and 500 hours PIC on type. You could achieve both of these with SunExpress and apply for Ryanair within 12 months from now

Kirks, reel your neck in.

High Five,

Talk about fiction! recent email from whom?

your first "contribution"

Ryanair are offering the opportunity to fly for Sunexpress Airlines for a year, get your 500 hours , and then be eligible to apply for Ryanair.
The carrot is that sunexpress will actually pay for your type rating. Whooo hooo ....

Sun Express has NO connection with Ryanair..full stop..

Your second post:You could achieve both of these with SunExpress and apply for Ryanair within 12 months from now

Please review the requirements for DEC 737 with SXS. The type rating, is not paid by SXS it is paid by the applicant ( either cash or bank guarantee letter) and reduced over 3 years with pay backs in lump sums. If someone left after 12 months they would loose approximately 10,000 Euros plus have to pay the remainder of the contract bond ( its a complicated formula based on salary and months remaining on original contract )

Thats it..

Circle to land are you telling us you have an offer from Ryanair for a job with Sun Express or a an offer directly from Sun Express for a Ntr DEC with a free type rating and then a release after 1 year to Ryanair? And FWIW Sun Express Captains can NET more than Ryanair Captains, especially those on UK contracts with RYR. .. Think about it.. how could any airline give a pilot a free type rating and then release them after just 12 months, ( effectively 9 months flying) The SXS Type rating contract states a initial employment period of 3 years. I'm curious why you don't apply for a DEC 777 with THY if you are at EK?

A vast number of THY B737 expat skipper are applying to Ryanair. I think all having the right to leave in EU are either screening resigning or about to do so. .Salaries are falling in Turkey, life style is **** and 110 hours per month will kill you. Beside THY keeps meddling with seniority to impede or limit the transfer of expat to WB fleets. EU base fixed roster 4/5 its difficult to beat now that they offer permanent employment. THY seems not to worry as I hear of no changes at the horizon.. I just wonder who will fly their planes.

The email i received starts

Dear Ryanair Non-Rated Captain Applicant,

Our records indicate you applied for a non-rated captain position with Ryanair. As you may be aware, Ryanair are presently only hiring B737-rated captains.
However, we do have a way of getting you to Ryanair in as little as 12 months from now.

Kirks, reel your neck in, you are outta the loop.

High five you should take your own advice .You have yet to provide any link to Sun Express other than hearsay. " our records indicate " is not proof .

I received the same email from McGinlay the other day. Below is a cut and paste of the whole email. I was screened last August as a NTR captain, given a start date and then the course was cancelled a few days later. I was told then that FR were concentrating on Type Rated applicants for the time being and that they would get back to me when FR had a NTR course.

We are working to recruit non-rated captains for SunExpress in Turkey, who will provide a B737-rating at no upfront cost (Terms and conditions apply).
For many of you, the only requirements you did not have for Ryanair were the B737 rating and 500 hours PIC on type. You could achieve both of these with SunExpress and apply for Ryanair within 12 months from now. Ryanair are continuously expanding, and as sole recruiter for them we do know that the requirement for rated captains will continue on well into 2016.

If you are interested in a position with SunExpress please do let us know. There are commuting options available and we have already placed successful candidates with them who can provide feedback on the assessment process. If you have already applied for SunExpress or do not meet the criteria below please accept our apologies and disregard this email. Please remember that if you are intending to apply for Ryanair in the future you will need to meet their entry criteria, which does include having a valid EU / EEA Passport with the unrestricted right to live and work in the EU.

SunExpress Non-Rated captain Criteria

· A minimum of 4,000 flight hours total time
• A minimum of 500 hours in command as a Commander / Captain of B737 NG aircraft (rated)
• Min 1500 flight hours on aircraft in excess of 27000 kg MTOW
• Min 3 years airline pilot experience (starting with type rating endorsement date)
• JAA ATPL(A)
• ATPL (A) license issued in accordance with ICAO and JAR-FCL standards
• Class 1 medical certificate issued in accordance with ICAO and JAR-FCL standards
• ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4/5

I have attached an application form. Please complete and return this to me at your earliest convenience so that we can register your interest and discuss your application.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Thanks for having the honesty to post that factual statement rather than make up a business connection between Ryanair and Sun Express that clearly doesn't exist . Terms and conditions apply means if you leave within 3 years you loose the deposit or pay the bond proportionally. Not free in other words . Most new Captains came via Sigma or direct application. Of course if Mcginlay offer to pay your type rating and leaving penalties it's a good deal. The facts are these agencies are short of candidates and are trying to gather a potential pool for the future.

Space Shuttle.. just for my own sake I went to check your profile. You do not seem to be involved neither with SXS or THY ..unless they started operating a Challenger 300 recently. So tell us how can you express such a misleading comment. Narrow body captains in THY are enduring 100+ hour killer roster, flying to dodgy destinations in the middle of the night..fly, sleep, fly.. they don't have time to have any lifestyle bad or good.. therefore , as it has been happening for the last 4 years the attrition rate is very high and an exodus is about to be triggered by Ryanair as it did 4 years ago with Norwegian...

So how does the Sun Express NTR application go again?

SunExpress Non-Rated captain Criteria

· A minimum of 4,000 flight hours total time
• A minimum of 500 hours in command as a Commander / Captain of B737 NG aircraft (rated)

my bold

if you have that why don't you apply for RYR?

If I would sum up the attrition foreseen here by the gods of PPRUNE (Ryr, NAS, EK, THY, SUNX, QR, WIZZ etc), these would make thousands of pilots. Where will these thousands of pilots actually go? Asia is slowing down, Europe is heading for slavery labour laws that resembles the ones of the 19th century. Forget about the US and south America unless you have a green card.

The ironic thing is they move between each of those carriers.

Hi guys,

Storm Mcginley have offered me a direct(permanent or fixed or whatever you want to call it) FO contract with Ryanair with TFS base. As I'm currently flying for a operator in the UK with a very slow command upgrade I'm tempted to take this offer. I'm only not sure what to expect tax wise.

When I will go to TFS I want to live there as well in order not to waist my time commuting. On the direct FO Ryanair contract where will the company contribute the social security and income tax? Will they pay the social security in Spain or Ireland? If they will pay it in Ireland, how will I be able to go the the doctor in Spain?

Also how much euros after taxes can i expect to take home when living in Spain?

Thanks for your time.

How about asking storm mcginley? They should be able to answer that question on the phone.

Charlieromeo123,

I think it's safe to assume that the very first part of the basic terms & conditions of the contract says you should set up a company in Ireland, no?

So it will be your service company that pays the income tax and social security. The social security is paid in the country where you are based, i.e. Spain. Only people still paying social security in Ireland are those who have done it prior June 2012 and live on grandfather rights.

Your 'Ryanair approved' accountant should sort out the social security payments.

Your income tax will probably fall under the double tax agreement between Ireland and Spain. Both countries may see you a resident for tax purposes. You may have some luck reclaiming taxes from Ireland, but don't hold your breath. It's a dispute that never ends.

On the direct FO Ryanair contract where will the company contribute the social security and income tax?

Is this question relating to your situation? Just to be sure, if on Storm the connection to Ryanair is: Charlieromeo123 --> Service Company --> Storm McGinley --> Ryanair. About as in-direct it can possibly be. Your Service Company will invoice Storm, receive money, pay taxes/social security and your salary. Storm will locate work for your Service Company, and you are its representative.

As for the income; I would say that 40-45 % of what your service company invoices will go to various taxes. Multiply the expected yearly hours (700-900), your renumeration rate psbh and 0,55 to 0,60.
