having prior experience does not necessarily guarantee the seat. i heard SIA prefers candidates without any prior experience.

Yeah, just go in and say you don't know anything but used to watch endless airplanes TKOF and land as a child.

Does anyone know if Singapore Airlines are taking any direct entry captains or first officers?
Are have they done it anytime in history?
If so what were the qualifications required?

haven't heard of direct-entry First officers before, captains yes but probably years ago. Anyone can shed light?

Wonderland : does it help if it is a local with CAAS licence?

SIA has stopped recruiting qualified pilots as they have an excess of crew and recently released a lot of pilots who are 62 yrs or greater!! However, they are recruiting Cadet pilots who will be first officers in approx 3 yrs to replace those who are retiring and for future growth..

dflyer,
Thanks for the info. I think i will be really close to becoming a captain on wide body. So that is not a really good plan for me.

SIA took a bunch of DE FOs in 1991/2, on Local Ts & Cs, many left within the first three years or immediately after completing the bond period, don't think they have taken many since then.

SQ will be probably taking in about 70 cadets yearly henceforth!

Won't be that many.

50-70 is in my opinion even a low estimate since they stopped silkair intakes, direct entries and have quite a large pilot body, they will need around 70-100 a year for replacements only. Not to talk about attrition during training even. Also note that cadets are dispersed among silkair and cargo too and the students have absolutely no say in it.
