These reports are merely just forecasts and estimations. Remember, Boeing like any aircraft manufacturer has shareholders and jobs at stake. I'm sure these numbers are exaggerated to put a positive light on future aircraft orders. The market for pilots is extremely saturated to the point where it would take a decade even to stabilize all those guys on furlough! People will always want to fly and pilots will always be coming out of training. I'm sure in the 90's they said the same, and time before that. Dont get me wrong airlines will definitely expand, but simple economics tells you demand always tries to equal supply, the airlines will simply factor this in into their future human resource plans!

There will never be a shortage of pilots. If there is, the HR departments of any airline will simply lower their entry requirements:}!
