Today the THY flight from Istanbul to London was diverted to LYBE due to Ipad that belonged to nobody in that airplane.
Ground checks ok.
Few hours delay.
No other problem.
Ouff those Ipads !!!

Probably left from a previous flight. Cleaning isn't what it used to be these days. The other day I noticed a boarding card in full sight dating back to two days previously. No, it wasn't a threat, but it proves that cleaning isn't as efficient as it may once have been. And this was on respectable German carrier :eek:

A few years ago, as SLF I was upgraded to first class. Shortly after takeoff, I found a brand new MacBook Air in the seat pocket (about $2k at the time). After overcoming a moments temptation to keep it :=, I alerted a flight attendant who I assume later took steps to get it back to it's rightful owner.


I don't think it occurred to anyone that it justified an air turnback :ugh:

If you think that whatever is left onboard has been through security screening then the chances of it being a threat are small. However, the fact that this sort of thing happens all too often demonstrates a clear weakness that can be exploited by those that wish us harm.

Much depends on the quality and efficacy of the security screening. Having witnessed screeners texting while supposedly watching the scanner screens and other abuses, I would err on the side of caution; there is a danger in becoming blasé and always treating these things as just lost items.

I think if I witnessed a security screener texting while operating the scanner, I would immediately whip out my phone to video it, then make a VERY loud complaint, even if it was a TSA drone and I faced a night in the cells.

Obviously I would upload the clip to the cloud first, to avoid it being "accidently deleted" by the authorities...

Down Mexico way, once upon a time when one was a teacher there, it was not uncommon to get on yesterday's train today in order to travel from Mexico City to Cuernavaca. That train of course was always full of yesterday's baggage and passengers too.

I'm a dispatcher at LGW and I know what you mean about cleaning up after passengers. Just today I dispatched 4 spins and I had an iPhone and an iPod handed to me by the crew. I've also had iPads kindles laptops. Briefcases unlocked with documents labeled strictly confidential. It does make me wonder how people leaves such things on aircraft.

With regards to security I have thankfully never seen GAL with their eyes on anything other than the screen they are meant to be looking at. Though dispite being in the EU all airports have different standards of security hence why international arrivals are kept away from departing passengers and domestic aren't. (according to a guy from DfT I was talking to) so I understand people getting touchy with electronics being left on-board. Especially after the mobile phone batteries scare we had.
