Birmingham today?

Was driving very close to Birmingham airport today with a colleague, wondering if anyone else saw the fairly large plane which took off about 12:25? Only reason for asking was the sheer amount of cr@p it was kicking out, didn't get much of a look myself but can confirm my colleague's comment that it was putting out smoke like an old diesel bus.

Trusty Flightradar24 in playback mode (and adjusting for British Summer Time) shows it to be a Ukranian An-12. That'd be the smoke all right!!

How funny, I was about to say was it the Russian, before I read the previous post :D


However noisy and smelly they are it's somehow always nice to see one!

It flew over NW Leicester on Thursday evening, most likely en route to EMA and was leaving a 5mile trail of soot behind it!
