Hello,
i am currently 40 hours into my ppl, with plans to just crack on to do my cpl.
My long term plans are fairly open, i live in the UK but am not really tied down and quite like the idea of doing my cpl overseas (i have been looking at Mauna Loa in Hawaii) but would like some advice..

I am in a position to move in the next couple of months, do i finish my ppl first in thee UK or go straight on to the course offered at mauna loa and do it with them? (and basically not gaining a UK ppl)

I will return to the UK in the next few years, would i be best to hold off and get euro PPl first.

One of the main reasons at going overseas is the more consistent weather and being able to progress quickly. I also like the programme these guys offer, where the hour building is part of the training, the UK seems to be mostly hour building after ppl then doing the cpl. I feel the hour building is just hiring an a/c and then randomly flying around the place, i see this as an ideal way of picking up bad habits.

I dont have the right to work in any other country (other than EU) should i just stay in the UK and find a school that trains whilst i hour build?

thanks

I had the same ideas with my cpl(a) but think you'll struggle to get a job in USA without a green card. If you can then definitely go to hawaii though. The scenery is awesome from land or air.

Yes, i'm under no illusion about getting a job in the US, however i would go on a student visa which allows me to work after qualifying, this last for 2 years. So, there is the potential to teach as an FI and work within the 2 years and build up hours/experience and then move on.
There is no guarantee of work after qualifying but there is quite a good percentage of graduates that work for Mauna Loa afterwards (according to them that is). And yes, Hawaii looks awesome

If you do get your CPL(H) elsewhere just be sure that they offer an EASA compliant CPL course along with the local license. Otherwise you will spend alot of money getting a license that is worth the paper its written on when you return to the UK.

you might have to bear with me on this, but this is my tentative plan... The commercial course in Hawaii is not EASA, it is FAA, i plan to get commercial FAA in year 1. In year 2 (whilst hopefully working) i plan to do EASA exams via CAPTonline, then return to the UK to convert faa CPL to EASA.
Im hoping this is achievable??

Sounds a good plan :)

If it fits in, I would possibly do the PPL in UK, then you can learn to navigate by other means than roads and railways :)

Having said that, Mauna Loa is an excellent choice, and one or two of our guys are instructing there. You could do the whole thing there, always bearing the above in mind.

cheers

Your fellow students will be your future job-finding network. Bear in mind. Choose your study location accordingly.

Hi---You could give Mike H at Peterborough Conington a call --thats if you are happy to do the training on a R22 with probably the most experienced Robinson Pilot in the UK--Really splendid Guy who not so much flies a 22 as wears it--very safety orientated but also tries to put some humour into it--and he will not lift your Leg in any way in Costs
