Just wanting to gather the gist of what things cost for a Class 1 medical, i've heard of a lot of people paying more than they have to and i'd like to make sure i'm not one of them.

Is this standard?

Ophthalmologist - $220
Audiologist - $140
ECG/Bloods - $50
DAME Medical - $200 (wants cash only)

So all up - $610

Thoughts?

I'm doing one soon and was quoted $227?

It's for an initial issue and I don't have to do any extra tests though...

Caedus, Class 1 Initial you should need to also complete an ECG, Audiogram, Blood Test and Eye Exam are all required as part of it, if you've been quoted $227 they may be thinking it's just a renewal for you or haven't informed you of the additional costs and just their costs for the DAME.

Yea I know of those but I did already say it was an Initial (they asked me twice about this)

Have it on black and white too!

To add: I hold a class 2 at this time. Perhaps why its cheaper?

About the blood tests. Just go to your nearest walk in medical centre and ask the medico there to refer you for blood tests as specified in the DAME hand book because you don't feel too good. Medicare covers it then. That's the truth in my case, when I think about paying for them I definitely feel unwell.

Don't forget to have the blood taker add your name to the referral requesting a copy to your address so you can take it to your DAME. Blood tests must be done within 90 days of due date and it behooves us all to do them as early as possible, just in case of an abnormality which we now have a couple of months to fix.

Seems like someone there is not giving out the right information.

My Class 1 initial issue is now $227 + $392 = $619, close to OP's quote as well.

You guys don't know you're alive!

Try getting something wrong with you that requires further examination...then watch the bills come in!!

G'day ;)

Another frustrating aspect is maintaining medicals for different countries, I currently have 3 (NZ,AUS & PNG)...shortly to become 6 monthly (over 40)...at $500+ a piece that will be circa 3k annually providing no issues require further investigation...an ICAO standard medical recognized by all authorities would be really handy... will never happen mind...

the extra CAA rubberstamp bull**** tax is rumored to be going soon, they will be putting a .2c tax on jetA1 or something to cover it. why they didnt do that initially is beyond me.

should get NZ medicals back down to $250 to $300

Hi,everyone
I am also thinking about to get my class one medicalin NZ.
However when I check the lisT of doctor. It doesn't show too much detail.
Here is my problem. If I want to finish my examination within one place around AKL airport area, which medical unit/center should I go to? I wish the medical center would Have all kinds of examination item that the CAA class one medical required.
Thanks in advance😄
