Tasmanian Warbird Adventures flights take off in WWII Harvard fighter trainer | The Mercury (http://www.themercury.com.au/news/tasmania/adventure-rolls-on-in-a-warbird/story-fnj4f7k1-1227389137475)

JUST weeks after mounting losses forced the shutdown of tourism operator Tasmanian Air Adventures, one of its pilots is offering customers the chance to buzz over Hobart in a vintage aircraft. Tasmanian Warbird Adventures offers flights in a World War II Harvard fighter trainer that allows passengers to feel like they are “soaring with the eagles” around Hobart.
Director Jethro Nelson has been flying for 30 years and has a passion for historic aircraft.
“The iconic sight, sound and feel of the World War II era is always something I’ve been interested in,” Mr Nelson said.
“I used to build models of this sort of thing when I was a little kid, then I got into the air cadets and that led to a career in the air force.”

Flights began last month and the feedback has been positive.

“People are just blown away, many saying it’s the most amazing aviation experience they’ve ever had,” Mr Nelson said.
“You can’t help but be blown away by the scenery of southern Tasmania from above.”
The flights travel over the city, climb over Mt Wellington, swoop down over the CBD, down the Derwent to Ralphs Bay and the Iron Pot and then down to Bruny Island before coming back.
Passengers get 360 degree views and can slide the canopy back if they want to feel the wind in their hair.
Aerobatics can be modified from mild to wild depending on the level of adventure passengers are seeking.
