My Acer Aspire E15 Start ES1-512-C50S W8.1 laptop has an Intel Celeron N2840 2.16GHz processor and 8GB of DDR3 1333 MHz memory.

I hop backwards and forwards between Opera 29 and Firefox 38.0.5, primarily because Opera steadily uses up all the available memory.
I admit that Opera has many pages open that I fail to close, but is it usual for it to consume all of the available memory? - I had 'Opera out of memory' today and when I checked using Task Manager the memory count was over 7GB.
Apart from the essential services that Windows insists on, I wasn't running anything else (at least not intentionally).
Is this to be expected?

Opening Opera now (I am using IE to compile this) the memory has escalated from 1.7GB to 6GB and the 'Committed' figure in Task Manager reads 9.0/16.4GB.

The CPU is currently running at 100% 2.55GHz.

I've never liked Opera, but a quick Google suggests :

(a) You may not be alone
(b) Find your way to the Opera Task Manager and tell us what you see there (Tools > Enable Developer Tools and look in the Developer Menu... apparently )

On the face of it, it sounds like some sloppy programming causing a memory leak.
