Apparently during the Falklands campaign there was a serious shortage of vehicles on Ascension Island, leading to various units resurrecting what derelict vehicles they could find. Some were fairly ancient, with all sorts of improvisation being required to make them usable.

If you saw any of these vehicles, or better still, were involved in getting them going, please tell.

When the Victor Force arrived at ASI in April 82 there was no in situ RAF/RN support. The squadron engineers raided the scrap dump for salvegeable vehicles and resurrected several wrecks to useable standard.
The result was several trucks/jeeps that could have been in the "Mad Max" films. A credit to the ingenuity of the RAF engineers. They provided the essential mobility required until more conventional transport arrived.

Looking through the holes in the floor of the "Crew Bus" as you went to fly did emphasise the fact that we were really on Ops.
