This will be short lived. Wrong forum even. But if you would like some entertainment, check out Flight Radar 24 and Hong Kong airport.

What's that about? Real a/c on ground or some fault with FR24?

There is no fault. What you see is really happening.

One aircraft looks like it driving down airport road! Looks like a mess, what's up?

It's Dragonair, don't worry... ;)

Looks like the gaggle is starting to thin out finally.

Must have been some weather earlier I would guess.

at midnight???

Some of these international hubs have a late night rush hour for better departure performance in cooler temperatures and to connect with the Europe and U.S. international flows. Dubai, for example, always seems to have several planes in holding at 1 am even with good weather and multiple runways.

The weather was shocking around Hong Kong earlier. We were 65nm off track to avoid, commented at the time that we were glad not to be heading there!

at midnight???

I just checked their arrival board (excluding code shares), 40 arrivals and 27 departures between midnight and 01:30.

Yes. At midnight - and beyond. I hear there were delays after landing of up to 2 hours to get a gate. Hence the long line of aircraft on the taxiways. Craziest thing I've seen there.

All back to normal. I did look at some of the aircraft flight tracks and couldn't see much in flight holding going on. Well done ATC. Pity about the airport authority and the ground shambles.

Take a look at last night's arrivals board and note the STA vs Arrival at Gate times. That probably tells the true story too.

More of the same tonight? Pity I'm off to work today. Otherwise I might have sat down with some popcorn and watch. Hmmm. Sad - I know. I'll delete this thread later. It was just an insight to the folks in other areas.

That's a bit harsh, blaming the Airport Authority! Departures were stopped on several occasions due to lightning warnings and ATC flow control. Aircraft were still landing, however, so all the parking gates filled up very quickly. That lead to a massive queue of aircraft on the taxiways, all waiting for a parking gate to become available.

We only held for about 10 minutes before landing, but then had to wait on the taxiway for over an hour before a gate became available. It wasn't a fun night for anyone!

Awful weather here at the moment. Black rain warnings, thunderstorms...been going on for days and forecast for a few more - I'm glad I'm not up there trying to find a safe way to get down here.

Have to agree with you. I came in on the 23rd in that muck, and am leaving now, and it does not look as though it will be any less sporty !
