Just read a report published by the ITF (International Transportworkers Federation) about a company called Al Najat Marine Shipping which has been charging hopeful would-be employees £40 (about $57 US) each for a pre-employment medical, by offering the prospect of a well paid job. THey have apparently done this in several countries netting them huge sums of cash. The deal was summed up by David Cockroft, ITF Gen Secretary as "an illegal scam".

It's a good job we work in the aviation industry where such blatant exploitation couldn't possibly happen.

Well, we had "Family Airlines" here in the US.
They charged pilots up to $50,000.00 for a job, then when all the money was collected, uh..They went out of business.

Also a similar scam here in Ft. Lauderdale back in 94 or 95, forgot the name of the "carrier", but they disappeared after a bunch of pilots paid up.

Be careful out there guys and girls......:(

Don't be careful, DO NOT PAY AT ALL. STOP PAYING FOR JOBS, have some self respect and refuse to pay for jobs....The need you to fly their aircrafts. My god what has this industry come too.

It's called supply and demand. There are more pilots than jobs so someone (ie FR) has seen an opportunity to increase profits. There will always be those desperate enough to pay.

Simple really, if morally wrong.
