Is there a free alternative to Google maps for creating a personal map with place markers and marker data?

The 'New' Google map is awful and covers half my screen with large panels listing my markers and a search box, and I cannot remove these. Why did they change it?

Cannot find a way to create sharing maps like Google Maps in Marble (have not yet looked at QGIS) so I look to be stuck with Google, so, how to get the big panels off-screen until I need them - anyone know?

I suppose you are talking about Google My Maps? Perhaps you could post a screenshot of what it is that is covering half of your screen, because as hard as I tried I couldn't get any panels to cover half of the screen. Not even close.

Subject privacy, etc, KBP, here are the 'panels'. They will not go away! I will admit not exactly 'half' but why can I not call them when I want them?

Since KBP appears to have been frightened off, does anyone else have any bright ideas?

:ugh:

First of all, when asking for help it helps identifying the correct product, ie Google My Maps and not Google Maps.

Secondly, it also helps stating the perceived problem accurately.

Thirdly, when it turns in to a whine, where you really expecting an answer?

Fourthly, your screen resolution looks like something from the 80's.

So sorry, Sir.

"looks like something from the 80's."

So do I (I wish....)

So, anyone anything useful to add?
