Huge shame. Such a gentleman. Treated his staff well...I still remember that meeting with him and TC on the stage...we pilots got a lot out of it. May he rest in well deserved peace.

Very sad, a honourable man and a big supporter of Help for Heros.

RIP Maurice and condolences to his family and to our colleague DG who is part of the family.

When Maurice left the company changed, he and Leroy were the makers of what the company once was. As a thought, he did see the best times and it is good that he will not be around to see otherwise.

Met Sir Maurice on a number of occasions in the early years when management was in touch with the troops. A fine gentleman that can't be replaced. Rest well and Godspeed. The sad end of an era...

The end of an era in many ways.

Sir M was such a charmer. He'd sit on the jumpseat and regale us with stories in the old days. Knew most of us by name and always had a kind word. Even hosted us for dinner at his house at least once that I recall.

Soon the five-digit staff numbers will be all gone and EK will have lost more than our current crop of leaders will ever realize.

Condolences to Claire and the family.

A very sad day indeed. Sir Maurice was a man of integrity and a true leader. A quality very rare in today's airline industry leadership. In his time he proved that one can have a successful, profitable airline whilst still respecting, maintaining and nurturing the human capital invested in the business. Sadly his legacy has gone with him.

R.I.P. Sir Maurice. He will always be remembered with respect by those of us who had the good fortune to work with him.

I admired Maurice.
When he retired, Emirates lost its human touch.
Now that he has left us, Emirates has lost its tiny remaining human conscience.

Maurice, I was the guy that literally bumped into you once at the old HQ in Deira. You nearly fell over. I appologised and ran away fearing for my job. Sorry again about that one.
Much respect.
RIP

On occasion he had poems published in The Spectator which were always deft and charming. I remember complimenting him on that and he turned beet red. A bit shy I think.

I wonder how long you'd have to wait to see a poem by AS or STC....

The last Senior Manager that truly cared about his staff.

He will be sadly missed

I had the privilege to meet Sir Maurice in HQ when he kindly signed a book for me. Nothing was too much trouble, we discussed the cricket and he made me welcome.
A true gentleman, a leader who people would willingly follow. RIP Sir.

Great man. Happen to bump into him many years back in the crew hotel in Manchester and he made time to have an ale with us.
Condolences to the family.

Condolences to the family and RIP.
Met him only once as he unexpectedly turned around to go back, I was doing the usual run in a rush to get the paper work done for admin stuff before my flight. I was right behind him. He apologised, looked in my eyes and acknowledged me.
A true gentleman.

Isn't the silence from the company deafening...?

LHR Rain
10th May 2015, 04:47
The silence is palpable because all of the current managers know they are not half the men that Maurice was and have a quarter of the talent. Embarrassing for them.
Was morale ever even close to,this bad under Mf? Hell no!

Very bizarre that there is no corporate acknowledgement of the passing of an undoubtedly great man and the founder of Emirates Airlines.

Cliff Webster told me once that he was trying to get once-a-year medicals approved for pilots over 40 but wasn't getting anywhere with the GCAA. He told his friend, Maurice, who made one call to His Highness (probably his Highness) and the paperwork came through the next day, just needing signatures!! Now that's influence. Wasta.

I brought his death up the other day on a flight and the F/O didn't even know who he was. Kinda sad, somehow. RIP Sir Maurice.

Leroy.....Leroy was amazing. Did the same job his counterparts do today but with no intimidation, a sense of humour and he made you feel like an adult and a professional. Hope he's doing alright, wherever he is.
