According to news investigation into the "sudden plunge" of Falcon 50 carrying Serbian president, revealed FO spilt coffee onto instrument panel and attempting to clean up the mess accidentaly caused deployment of slats. Seems a tragedy similar to the Falcon 900 over Bucharest in 1999 was avoided.

You joke about tommy tippies, we use the adult versions! I have a mate who had a similar experience in a Challenger, but thankfully didn't deploy anything. He was banned from having hot drinks in the cockpit for 6 months by the P1!

Many moons ago a Dutch crew flipped over a bowl of soup on a Fokker 50... Our CC always serve drinks on the window side of the flight deck seats and we keep all drinks on that side, never on the pedestal.

Lesson learned for these guys...

I think the point here has been missed. Nothing wrong with spilling a few drops of coffee, it is the way you go about cleaning up the mess that matters. Neverthless it was so fortunate that there was no big bill to clean up a mess in the cabin. Am sure next time it happens the cabin attendant will be summoned.

Apart from the initial sensationalist reporting I will be curious when a final report comes out.
The switch to extend the emergency slats is guarded and would require two separate actions to activate. Although this is a very early Falcon 50 it probably has the same system. I would bet the slats may have some damage as well.

Apparently the Daily Mail is a media outlet that exaggerates stories a bit but there could be an element of a story in this.

Investigated by the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate in 4 days, the co-pilot is publicly named and shamed and then had his license temporarily suspended. They must have misplaced their copy of Annex 13 or anything that mentions 'just culture'.

From memory the copilot attempted to reduce the rate of descent using the control column, with the autopilot engaged! The Arthur Q logic didn't like this and violent oscillations in pitch followed. The passengers were flung around the cabin.

Maybe somebody was watching "Fate is the Hunter", where a coffee spill triggered a false engine fire alarm, leading to the shutdown of a good engine. Not good when the other engine had just failed for real.
