Dear all,

Some of you may be interested in the following (I hope!).

In 1943 Gordon Edwards and Walter Adamson were two trainee RAF pilots learning to fly as part of the Rhodesian Air Training Group at RAF Kumalo, Bulawayo.

With only three weeks of their course left they took off on a navigation sortie, took pictures of their waypoints, turned for home, and were never seen again.

Some weeks later their abandoned Airspeed Oxford was found on a salt pan over the border in the Bechuanaland Protectorate. Over the coming months the grisly tale of their fate slowly emerged leading to a murder trial that attracted media attention from all over the world.

The Kalahari Killings follows Gordon Edwards’ career, including his time with 111 Squadron in Scotland and then 134 in Murmansk and Egypt before being posted to southern Africa to be taught to fly. It focuses especially on the role of the Rhodesian Air Training Group’s role in producing nearly 10,000 RAF pilots from all over the Commonwealth. It also looks at Bechuanaland’s surprisingly large contribution to the war effort.

It is on sale from May 4 and can be bought from all good bookshops, including http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kalahari-Killings-Wartime-Double-Botswana/dp/0750956658.

Cheers

Jonathan
