An Asiana Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration HL7762 performing flight OZ-162 from Seoul (South Korea) to Hiroshima (Japan) with 74 passengers and 8 crew, was on approach to Hiroshima's runway 28 at about 20:05L (11:05Z) but touched down about 330 meters short of the runway threshold, the tail struck the ground, the aircraft broke through the localizer antenna, skidded down to the right of the runway turning 180 degrees around in the process and came to a stop about 1500 meters past the runway threshold and about 145 meters to the right of the runway center line on soft ground, the aircraft nose pointed towards the runway threshold (180 degrees turned around), just in front of the airport's main apron. The aircraft was evacuated. One occupant received serious injuries, 22 occupants received minor injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage including all gear collapsed, the left main wing fractured, the left engine severly damaged.

Japan's Ministry of Transport reported that the aircraft touched down about 330 meters short of the runway suffering a tail strike with sparks visible from the tail section upon touchdown, the aircraft broke through the localizer antenna and received substantial damage to left wing and left engine (V2527).

Japan's TSB have opened an investigation into the accident.
