I am running W7 with Office 2003. It's old but it works until now.

When I open a new document the flashing curser is at the top of the page.

For years it has been about 7 or 8 lines down. That was what it did when it was installed so I presume that was the default starting point. How do I change it back. I have tried the Format and Tools menu but I cannot get anywhere. Changing the paragragh break point brings it down but then there are massive spaces between paragraghs.

I have not attempted to change the start of the page before this so what has happened and how do I get it back to normal.

Maybe you changed the view from "print layout" to "draft"?

If that is not the problem try setting the page top margin to 2.54cms/1inch

Word uses templates. There is a 'default' template that every new document opens with. I can't say why your default template has changed recently but if you want to change it back you have to edit this template.

It should be in your 'templates' folder and named 'normal.dot' or 'normal.dotm'

1. Open Word
2. Click on the Microsoft Office button
3. Click on Open
4. Look at the top of the pane that opens and you will see a folder called Templates
5. Click on the folder and see normal.dotm in the list, double click in it to open
6. Make the changes then Save

The next new document should open with your new defaults.

Try double-clicking at the top of the page, just below the ruler.

Oh, and not to sound like a certain outspoken emulsive peer, but just so you know, you won't get any more security updates for Office 2003 :p
