Beaver XP820 in Borneo

The HAF Beaver was flying last week in a positive rather than 'sort of' fashion. The HAF is slowly coming back to life.

Straight off the (sort of) MOD website for the AAC HAF.

The Army Historic Aircraft Flight (AHAF) are unable to display as a fully constituted air display team and will remain in 'suspended animation' until further notice.

Unless you know different VX?

I thought the aircraft had been put on the civil register on Permits to Fly, precisely so the Army Historic Flight could continue to display. I stand to be corrected, however/

Not trying to go off thread or denigrate the fine job the HAF did/still do and I'm delighted XP820 was airborne again last week but does placing them on the civil register mean; civil licensing, rules, insurances etc, surely a real retrograde step for such a fine bunch of aircraft. What went wrong there?

It is so. Earlier this year the Historic Aircraft Flight Trust was established manned by volunteers to promote the ethos and heritage of Army Aviation. The Scout, Allouette, Sioux, Auster and Beaver are now all on the Civil Register. The Scout has a Permit To Fly, the Beaver has the Permit to Test, the results will determine the PtF. The Auster and Sioux are also going through the process and will follow on. The Allouette is a longer term project. The whole operation is staffed by and flown by serving or ex serving AAC pilots not on duty using their civilian licences.
In short, it has been a long road but the old birds are flying again.

With over 1500 hours of Scout flying behind me, many years ago, the thought of getting back in one scares the crap out of me. Life is just so much easier nowadays lets face it, if I can't couple it - it just ain't. Good luck to those that do.

Starting was no problem, just keep pumping the kygas pump. Starting was only a problem when you had to hand-crank it with the handle! Only had to do it a couple of times...thank goodness!
