Using Firefox (edited to say Opera rather than Firefox) with AdBlock Plus under W8 I have just had one website 'enforce' disablement of AdBlock Plus by splashing a coloured 'ad' across (demanding disablement of AdBlock Plus for that website).

I couldn't see an alternative (ie no means of closing the intrusive 'ad').

I'm now left with a seemingly 'permanent' ad for Media Player 12.7 that I cannot close without accepting the download (which I have no intention of doing).

Any comments or suggestions? (ie such as an alternative ad-blocker)

G-CPTN pass on the URL of that intrusive site and I'll have a look. I use XP most of the time and W7 when needed.

when you say permanent, do you mean it starts again and again, or . . .

Can you start Task Manager still, or are you locked into the browser environment, and out of all other functions, without forcing the machine to close with say, the power button?

The site which 'objected' is Motorsports At VIPLeague And Vipbox (http://www.vipleague.is/sports/motorsports.html) - and I've discovered I was using Opera rather that Firefox - sorry.
I've just re-activated Adblock Plus (in Opera) and the intrusive message returns (for that site). It never used to 'object' - this is a very recent development.

No locking - just a persistent advert that doesn't go away and can't be removed by clicking a 'cross' as was usual previously.

What do you mean by 'accepting the download'.
I cannot 'close' the advert - the only option permitted would be to click 'yes' and follow the download.

It annoys me that AdBlock Plus no longer works for http://www.vipleague.is/sports/motorsports.html]

I'm not seeing any option to click "yes" to accept any download on the site you list.

I am seeing the pop-over ad, requesting that adblock be disabled. This is to do with the site's settings - they obviously want you to see an ad or two to help pay the bills, I guess.

That you're getting a link to a download suggests that it might be worthwhile to run adwcleaner (https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/) - you may have installed something that has some unwanted baggage bundled with it.

Current access to the subject wesite (vipleague.is) isn't offering me the Media Player advert (that stated that Media Player 12.7 was recommended for this website and should be downloaded).
I can usually dismiss unwanted adverts, but this Media Player had no identifiable 'closure' icon.

Maybe the adverts change from time to time?

I visited the site and got the ABP request but no incessant download requirement and the Close button worked okay. I then deleted the site's cookies just in case. I used the browser Firefox 13 on the XP operating system with Peerblock 'HTTP blocked' active if that's any help.

The adblock plus forum is active, responsive and helpful.

Here is a recent thread about VIPbox etc.

Sadly this case seems quite complex and there may be no magic bullet solution.

Make sure you are using the latest filters as they update them frequently, often in response to reported problems.

There is an anti-anti-adblocker filter list (Adblock Warning Removal List) that might be worth a try but it doesn't seem to be of much help.

I use:
Easylist
Adblock Warning Removal List - no idea if it has ever actually done anything
Fanboy's annoyance list - added for a specific problem

I suppose it might be worth trying a less widely used ad blocker instead - if there are any.

By the way, Firefox can be configured to use more than one profile. This allows different instances of firefox to have different add-ons installed.

I've just downloaded uBlock. It's only one day old but it has some good writeups.
