News of some bad people.

Last Monday 9th March the Southampton Aviation Museum, Solent Sky, was broken into and the safe ransacked. (my connection is that I am a volunteer guide there).

The main historical item stolen was a silver cigarette case belonging to RJ Mitchell, designer of the Spitfire. Other lesser items were taken, but these have not been publicised.

While the items stolen have in themselves relatively low monetary value, as the museum are the trustees of the RJ Mitchell Trust, this is a blow to lose such historically valuable items of our heritage.

The full story can be found here:

Forunately, apart from a smashed door and a smashed safe, damage was minimal, and no vandalism to the priceless exhibits was done.

If anyone is offered a Silver Cigarette case with the initials RJM on the front (picture in the link above), Hamsphire police will be delighted to know.

Thank you

I know it,s not any help to you in this incident......but if you have any more valuable historical artifacts, I urge you to consider this site:

Contact Us (http://www.smartwater.com/contacts/index/)

I am not selling it ! I work as a volunteer for War Memorials and if people who care for them would consider using this then maybe the scum that thieve without morals may be deterred.

I hope they turn up safe soon.
