Hi All,
Please can anyone advise me with regards to the flying characteristic's(Landing speeds etc) between the Piper pa 28-161 warrior diesel and the Piper PA-28-181 Archer? Many thanks,
Al.

Sorry to ask a question from a question but have you flown both ?

I believe landing speeds are the same, although the Archer will have a greater payload if that helps you at all.

Just the two most used numbers,

161: Initial approach 73knt final: 63knt

181: Initial approach 76knt final: 66knt

All the numbers are available if you Google them. Or better still look in the POH.

I fly both regularly but the Archer probably 90% and would take an Archer every time over the underpowered IMHO warrior's.

disclaimer: I have never flown a diesel, so take those numbers as you will.

I was probably editing as you were posting...

Unless the weight difference for a diesel is not a factor in the given speeds for normal operation then those numbers are valid.

Oh, haha.

You said you flew both regularly so confused me.

I love the Diesel warriors, but I appreciate they have some downsides.

The diesel warriors are horrible. Co stanly smell of jet fuel. I used to teach in them and never enjoyed it.

The numbers are the same as the Avgas, you change the engine not the flight envelope.....

Yes I have confused the issue by not stating avgas only flying........

Must read more carefully.

They've come a long way mate, not that bad although you can still smell a hint of fuel.

Which engine is fitted into the Warrior in question, as -161 would be the Avgas burner original they started from?

Could be 155hp Centurion 2.0s, which would be fine, but also could be 135hp 2.0 maybe the old 1.7, or even small 125hp - with which the Warrior performance tends to be quite ... parsimonious (at least in take off).

parsimonious= mean, miserly, niggardly, close-fisted, penny-pinching, cheese-paring, ungenerous, penurious, illiberal, close, grasping, Scrooge-like, stinting, sparing, frugal;
