View Full Version : Seletar Airport, Singapore

Hello everyone, I've been tasked to put together a photographic montage of commercial aviation companies that were resident at Seletar Airport during the period immediately after the British pull-out to the opening of the Seletar Aerospace Park. What I'm looking for are photographs of the buildings, ideally showing the company logo, and the variety of aircraft each company handled, but anything relevant will be greatly appreciated.


The companies that I recall are; Airfast, Anrite Aviation, Aviation Management Systems, C&A Aviation, Dowty Aviation, Fokker Aircraft Services, Jet Aviation, Junior Flying Club, Hawker Pacific Aviation, HeliOrient, Heliservices, Lockheed Aircraft Services Singapore, SAMCO, Sembawang Aviation, Singapore Flying Club, Singas.


I'm sure there are more but these are the ones that I remember. Many thanks.

Can't help with photos but..

I was in the Hawker Pacific premises and they had this old enamel sign on the wall. When I asked about this they explained that in their old premises there was this big overhead crane which they kept on as part of the decor.

When they moved to the current location they couldn't move the crane so they just brought along the enamel signs..

Seems like a company that values it heritage.. maybe give them a call?

Anilv: Many thanks, I remember the overhead gantry in the customers lounge at the old Hawker Pacific hangar. It was a left-over from the British days when that part of the hangar was a workshop and part of No. 32 MU Maintenance Unit) RAF Seletar.

The RAF operated Sunderlands ex Seletar as well, one of the ex pilots was with SIA and SIIA Learjet in 1993.

greybeard: Although the Sunderlands are long gone, if you Google Earth for Seletar you can still see the ramp used for getting them in and out of the water. As it's in the military part of Seletar, it's virtually impossible to get to see it. Much of the old Seletar is gone and only a few original buildings remain, one of them is the old Station HQ, now looking quite forlorn but at least it's being preserved. The main gate is still in use (but not for much longer as an all-new access road is about to open). Just inside the main gate, the old guard-room is still there but is now - wait for it - a kindergarten!

I might be able to get some Junior Flying Club hangar's photos.

But, let's be realistic. What can the contributors (like us) get inreturn?

You can google Singapore Flying Club, from the page you can find the club contact. You can find albums, magazines and posters from the club yesteryears at the club.

yes it was Colin, was endorsed on the L-31 by him in '93.

Stalls, steep turns and 3500 to 10000 emergency descents AT NIGHT half way to Kuching, then a few circuits to settle the nerves.

Cadets went the same way until we acquired the Simulator.

Tuff stuff.

Greybeard..... Indeed it brings back memories of U-Tapao airfield doin emergency descents and circuits over the airfield.One tree hill rings a bell!!! Plenty of trouble to be had for 10 young men with a broken aircraft(initial LR31 was flimsy) in Pattaya!!!!!
Colin trained me.... I was on the little jet between June and October 92. We must have missed while crossing each other in passing. enjoy retirement!!!!

Some old "Singapore Delboy" sold me (along with a vast number of others from what I can gather) a L188 many years ago at Seletar.

Can anyone tell me if it's still there?
