I have a number of Apple apps requiring updates but they won't. Is this just a temporary glitch or something more sinister?

crewmeal,

Apple run most of their high-volume systems over CDNs (Content Distribution Networks). So it may not necessarily be an Apple issue as such, but an issue with one of the CDNs (e.g. Akamai).

Furthermore, due to the heavily localised nature of CDNs, some people may not be affected at all. For example, I was doing some updates a couple of hours ago and had no issues authenticating or downloading in iTunes.

The downside is that if it is a localised CDN issue affecting only certain geographies, then it is a little harder to diagnose and track-down the root cause.

In a nutshell, I guess I'm saying give them an hour or so and it should all be back to normal.

It's happened since I updated to the latest software 8.2.

I don't think that it is related to the iOS 8.2 update, but is more generally an Apple problem. I understand that iTunes is not available, and neither is iCloud. There hasn't been any news of how long it might take to resolve, but keep an eye on the Apple support pages and twitter.

I presume Mixture did not read the link in the OP before diving into his defense of Apple - specifically :

Update 3: Apple made an apology in a statement issued to CNBC (http://www.cnbc.com/id/102495735), identifying the issue as “an internal DNS error at Apple” and noting that it’s “working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible,” with thanks for their patience. The outage reportedly has impacted Apple services in multiple countries, even taking down the payment processing terminals at Apple Stores.

Of course, Apple never foul up ;)

MidlandDeltic,

Given that CDNs work on DNS, I would say I wasn't far off the mark.

And given an Apple spokesman wouldn't necessarily know whether it was CDN DNS or Internal DNS.... I would say my diagnosis was actually spot on !

So there ! :ugh:

Looks like things are back to normal, at least in the UK.

Apologies it was me.

I put in a support request to Apple yesterday about my newly created Apple Id not working (there's a post about this on another thread on this forum).

I guess they had to switch it off and switch it back on again.
