We have just, reluctantly, had to ditch my wife's beloved Vaio and have now been forced into Win8
The major problem is that she want's to keep her old email address, but that is on a POP3 account and, as everyone probably knows, Win8 doesn't do POP3, it needs IMAP as the incoming server
What I would like to know is how do I change her account from POP3 to IMAP?
I am with talktalk and as far as I can make out they should be the ones to change the server from POP3 to IMAP, does anyone know if I am right?
I have done all that is required in the mail account to set it up BUT it asks for an IMAP server and as far as I can see it can't find the settings for her address because it is still on POP3 :*
HELP, Regards, Den.

I use windows live mail. Had it on W7 PC and transferred it all to a new W8 pc, I don't use whatever it is that comes with W8.
Windows live mail is part of windows essentials, it is a separate download. essentials (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-live/essentials-other#essentials=overviewother)

Following on, does anyone have any info. on who is responsible for changing the server from POP3 to IMAP?
I am just curious, especially after a long, fruitless conversation with a "tech" guy based in India.

I'd be surprised if the server doesn't already support both IMAP and POP3. It's basically the same email server, just listening on a different TCP port number.

Have a look at this page for talktalk email settings:

Email Settings - IMAP & POP3 | TalkTalk Help (http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/email-settings-imap-pop3)

It's more on the client side that the difference is apparent, as you have discovered.

Here's a helpful explanation:

Email: What's the Difference Between POP3, IMAP, and Exchange? (http://www.howtogeek.com/99423/email-whats-the-difference-in-pop3-imap-and-exchange/)

Saab
I went online and used talktalk's own help page, which gave quite explicit instructions, including pictures of the various stages and at the end all I got was a message saying that the person couldn't be found.
At that stage I asked here for help and fortunately spannersatcx gave me the perfect solution and as we are both retired we do not really need web based mail.
Thanks for the info. though and now I have another website to help improve my limited computer skills :ok:
Regards, Den.
