Indeed that's a fantastic if grim series of Images, seen a lot of them before but not with that clarity.

What was surprising to me was the size of the canon bore on some of those guns. Sheesh! :eek:

Weren't all the US Civil War photos taken with the wet-plate process? The glass plate had to be coated, exposed, and developed while still damp. The photographer had an assistant who doubtless managed the logistics of the horse-drawn darkroom.

The US Library of Congress has a large collection of these plates. Photographers were Mathew Brady and many others.

My Grand Dad's Uncle was William Henry Jackson.

I thought he had done Civil War photos, but he was best known for the pix he took "out west".

One such hangs on the same wall as the Declaration of Independence in DC, but on the other side of the wall.
