I coincidentally noticed that the Boeing 787 have additional leading edge flaps.
As i never have noticed this on passenger aircrafts before I have to ask: Is this a first occurence in the branch?

Most jet airliners since the first 707s have had Krueger flaps.

Shame on me who as a tech buff haven't noticed those on any of the wings I've sitting looking at during departures and landings :-(

Don't feel too bad about it, all of us sometimes fail to notice something which is obvious to others!

If it's any consolation, they aren't easy to see when you're looking down on the wing from above/behind it:

Some have slats instead. Trident 1 even had 'droops' (ooh err Mrs!).

Some airliners have a mixture of both - 727/737.
The A380 has droop LE + slats.
