Trying to work out which a/c would have flown this in August 2002, does anyone have any recollection?

Much appreciated.

I would think the BAe146 and Dash 7's were only types operating in and out of LCY in 2002.

No, plenty of other types operating to LCY in 2002

Amongst others...
Dash 8 (200/300/400 series)
Saab 2000
Dornier 328
Fokker 50
ATR42

Back in 2002 I think Lufthansa were operating the route, so presumably a Bae146 / RJ

Lufthansa started a Berlin service with Bae146 in May 2001, but as I understand it gave the route up in early 2002 as part of the post-9/11 cutbacks. It was on a BAe146.

The first jet service out of LCY was to Berlin Tempelhof, by small carrier Conti-Flug. This ran from 1991 to 1994, when Conti went out of business, again with the 146.
