RGB, How are doin? I'm outside Boston and we've seen 75" (190cm for metric types) in 3 weeks. I've resorted to fishing waders to fill the bird feeders. There's fewer and fewer places to put the stuff. It snowed all night at 13F, another 7".

We've had 66" in about the same time. The current storm is forecast to bring another 12"-18". All plows, indeed all vehicles, now off the roads in blizzards.
Goin' nowhere till Tuesday - lots of movies lined up and some indoor projects to finish. A casserole on and the wine cellar stocked!

I did go out in the garden and drive in the first ground socket; for a hammock pole.
No two socket; may get the sledge hammer and wood block treatment: tomorrow.
The weather might restrict that option: so if Mr Racedo could supply updates.
Must be ready for a not too swinging: fine summer over grass.

No snow to send south here but I'll happily pass on the -35 to -40 C wind chill we had overnight.
Finally got out for a walk today as the temps had soared to -18 C or -30 C with wind chill.

All roads either covered or closed.
Plows were only doing emergency call-outs. In the one incident, the ambulance made it there & back, but the medical supervisor and associated plow are still out there. They are OK, but no idea when they will be rescued.

We're sorry but rgbrock1 cannot respond to this thread as he is frozen solid.
Not only do we have 3' of snow on the ground in my area but last night's temperature "dipped" to -10F/-23C but with the winds gusting to 55mph the wind chill factor/"read feel" got down to -33F/-36C
I know I whine about the cold weather often but I have never in my life encountered such bone-chilling weather. (Aside from cold weather training in Alaska many moons ago.)
This really, truly sucks.

But as I live about 100 nm north west of you I can only say, stoke up the fire and keep your blood alcohol level up to 80 proof!

I guess having grown up and lived the vast majority of my life in warm spots, I can't wrap my head around voluntarily living where it gets that cold. I know this winter is likely a one off, but even a regular winter isn't one I'd like to suffer through. I get enough snow on work trips in the winter to know what a pain it is.
I enjoy visiting the snow every now and then but I know when I retire in some distant far off year that I never want to have to wear anything but shorts, Tee shirt and flip flops again.

It's just a personal opinion, but I prefer the people. A proper winter makes everyone more human. Norwegians, Finns, etc, and those Americans living in Maine, etc.
I've lived in Arizona. The weather's great, there were some great people (especially the aviation types), but here they are pretty much all great.
I shall be doing some snowbirding though ;)

@OldeMacKenzie
She turned up about 5km away.
I'd cleared my driveway by 1130 hrs, but no road!
The plow made it an hour later, but really slowly, must be some big drifts further up. He was working with one of those double stack snowblowers on a CAT tractor unit. Big Mutha! Only a single track.
I'm on a very quiet road which for historical reasons has a 100 series designation, so we get cleared right after the main highways. Much of PEI still has no roadway. The bridge and airport were open this morning, but were unreachable!

The good thing about San Diego is we keep our Democrats south of Interstate 8. North of there is mostly affluent, right of center folks. As we like to point out, San Diego is the most populous city in the US with a Republican mayor. Hope to keep it that way for awhile.

Fox3, I'm no virgin when it comes to blizzards, from LI 1947 to Oswego 1958 and many many others, but I can never- ever- remembering seeing a series of photos which could compare to those shared on the cbc website. It is mind boggling.
Good thing you've got lots of ocean on all sides to push it into.
Fox3WheresMyBanana
18th Feb 2015, 11:05
In a lot of ways, it's no big deal.
Indeed, the event is described as "the mainland is cut off from PEI" (hope they'll be alright ;)). Everybody's got supplies in. The power is almost completely on.
The clear up is a problem as it's pretty solid, but Nova Scotia is worse off. The sequence for them was snow - rain - flash freeze (it's -26 again here now). Thus they have a thick hard crust that nothing but chippers and steam jets can shift. We at least can move the drifts with snowblowers to let the plows through. Although we don't have that many snowblowers as almost always plows can shift the snow.
Patience.
Freezing rain is the worst, as it brings down the power lines. This was in 2008

Personally I'm fine. I can get to a road. It's sunny. I have jobs to do at home, and satellite TV (Go Habs!). I also have some new hills on the horizon - Looks like 15-20 foot drifts in the field to my west, in the lee of a wood.
p.s. We have crumbling shorelines and a frozen sea till end April - ocean dumping not an option.
