When I did my initial PPL medical years ago, I knew I was colour defective so went to th eDoc before spending any money on flying. Did the then current test, Giles Archer I think, and got my ticket as Colour Defective safe, so am not limited to day VFR.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a class 1 but not sure I want to go an fail the new tests and have my class 3 or whatever it is now, limited to day VFR as I currently have night and IMC badges.

Does anyone know, do the CAA keep files on PPL's medical history? If so would they talk sensibly about whetehr the stuff they got from the eye doctor all those years ago is likley to be a problem in a class 1 situation?

CAA are quite decent in that they will not take away your existing night rating or IR even if you can only get a class 2 now or if you fail the colour tests now.
Therefore nothing lost in trying for the ishihars or lantern tests.
