I saw this aircraft parked on a remote stand when I landed @ BHX on 10th, STBD engine cowls were open and apparently it has been 'tech' since the 6th!
Anybody know what the problem is?

I've no idea, but the 787 and Air India haven't had a very fulfilling relationship so far…

Indeed, VT-ANK is mentioned in here also.....

Probably got to do more with the Engineering as is evident from below

Plenty of other 787 operators flying the type relatively trouble free. I say relatively because all types have their technical issues. I'd be more inclined to believe that it's more of an airline maintenance practices issue.

The technical issue with VT-ANK in BHX, has nothing what so ever to do with a/c type.
The B787 is blameless for a change. :ok:

I cannot believe AI have not organised this a/c to be fixed. Where are their engineers? Where are Boeing engineers? Where are the parts? No other carrier would allow their a/c to be 'left' on the ground for so long.

Anyone willing or able to answer the OP's question ?

Anybody know what the problem is?

The aircraft requires a "C" Duct change (Thrust Reverser half).
Parts are not readily available and will not arrive until the 16th.
Now is everybody happy. :ok:

Who will fix it? AI or MAEL?

Might be a combined effort.

Ah, you mean it could just as easily have been any other GEnx-1B-powered type. :O

No, l mean it could have been any Airbus, Boeing or other manufacturer type that has gas turbine engines fitted. :ugh:

But it wasn't, was it ? :ugh:

Thrust reverser halves have to be changed on an unscheduled basis every now and again regardless of aircraft/engine type. Get over it.

Mr @ Spotty M
15th Feb 2015, 09:18
The reason for the change was due to it being damaged and it had nothing to do with aircraft type.
The type of damage and the reason for the damage has been found on many other types of aircraft, before the B787 was even on the drawing board.
I am fully aware of the many faults the B787 has due to my job, but this problem is not one of them.

Fair enough, if it turns out we're talking about FOD or an argument with a baggage truck, rather than a component failure/collateral damage, then I agree that the aircraft type is irrelevant.

It must be some job to replace the part(s), now been @ BHX 2 weeks tech.
