Today flew in over wing exit row on Austrian Aiways A320 and the briefing card for emergency exits said that in the event of a ditching to jump into the water from the forward edge of the wing.

Is this to stop passengers using the escape chute as a liferaft (if the escape chute is non detachable why doesnt the card say "do not pull the handle to inflate the chute in a ditching") or is there an inherent danger in jumping off the back edge of the wing into water?

Don't know the answer mate . .. . But in your heading
i can tell you the word 'water' is superfluous

Yeah,
Because you might slip and hurt yourself!

I understand it's because some after parts of the wing have limited weight-bearing capacity - and you wouldn't want to get your foot caught, would you?.
